According to a company announcement, this development follows the issuance of the country’s first installation permit for a biomethane production plant, under Law 5215/2025 and the Regulation on the Installation and Operation of Biomethane Production Plants, marking a major milestone in the implementation of the new regulatory framework.

The project

The project involves upgrading biogas into high-purity biomethane, followed by its compression and storage for use as a transport fuel (bio-CNG). The pilot project is particularly significant for Greece’s domestic energy market, as it lays the groundwork for harnessing a renewable energy source and integrating it into existing energy infrastructure.

The compressed biomethane produced will be available through DEPA Commercial’s FISIKON filling stations, expanding the use of renewable fuels in the transport sector.
