Under the announcement, vessels may remain potential targets even after departing Saudi terminals.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, most container ships continue to avoid the Red Sea, opting instead for the longer route around the Cape of Good Hope on voyages to the Mediterranean and Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the challenging geopolitical environment, the Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT), which operates Piers II and III at Greece\u2019s largest port, continued to handle high cargo volumes.<\/p>\n<p>According to COSCO Shipping Ports, Piers II and III handled 366,900 TEUs in June, down from 380,600 TEUs in the same month of 2025, a year-on-year decline of 3.6%.<\/p>\n<p>In January-June, throughput reached 1.995 million TEUs, compared with 2.054 million TEUs a year earlier, representing a 2.9% decrease.<\/p>\n<h2>COSCO posts strong global growth<\/h2>\n<p>COSCO Shipping ports continued to report robust growth across its global network.<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese port operator said container throughput across its portfolio of 38 ports increased 6% to 10.5 million TEU in June.<\/p>\n<p>In the first six months of 2026, total&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.naftemporiki.gr\/english\/2143933\/piraeus-container-traffic-remains-resilient-despite-red-sea-shipping-disruptions\/?utm_source=rss&#038;utm_medium=rss&#038;utm_campaign=piraeus-container-traffic-remains-resilient-despite-red-sea-shipping-disruptions\">\u0394\u0399\u0391\u0392\u0391\u03a3\u03a4\u0395 \u039f\u039b\u039f \u03a4\u039f \u0391\u03a1\u0398\u03a1\u039f \u0395\u0394\u03a9<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Container traffic at the Port of Piraeus remained resilient in the first half of 2026 despite mounting disruption to global shipping caused by the ongoing Red Sea crisis and renewed security threats affecting major liner operators.
