Part of Data4’s first data centre in Paiania has become operational, with construction of the entire facility, which has an IT load of 15 MW, nearing completion. Full operation of the new infrastructure is scheduled for early 2027.

According to Data4 Greece Country Director Nikos Konstantinidis, the French company, which is investing €300 million in Greece, is planning a second data centre of similar capacity, while leaving open the possibility of a third facility, depending on demand. The campus is being developed on a 75-stremma site (7.5 hectares), with total gross electrical capacity of 90 MW, a figure that differs from the IT load of the equipment.

Konstantinidis, who is also vice-president of the Greek Data Centre Association (GRDCA), told Naftemporiki that the IT capacity of data centres in Greece is expected to increase significantly over the next two years.

“If we count all data centres in Greece today in terms of IT load, we are at around 30 to 40 MW. I estimate that, with the investments underway, they will reach approximately 150 MW in about two years.”

Three advantages

Asked about Greece’s position on the international data centre map, he said the country has three key advantages that could help it emerge as an international data centre hub.

“The first is its geographical location. Greece lies along the corridor between Africa, the Middle East and south-eastern Europe and, from this perspective, is ideally placed to become a hub.

The second is the…
